정희승(b.1974)은 재현의 대표적인 매체로 인식되어 온 사진의 한계와 속성에 주목하여 일상적 사물들을 간결하게 담아낸 작품들을 선보인다. 자신을 둘러싼 주변의 모습들을 카메라 프레임에 기록하는 작가는 인물, 신체, 식물, 건축, 공간 등 시간의 흐름 속에 놓인 사물들을 동적이면서도 정적이고, 차가우면서도 따뜻한 분위기 속에 제시한다. 그의 화면은 작가의 개입을 최소화한 채 냉담하고 건조한 외관을 띄고 있지만, 정연한 조형성을 바탕으로 한 감각적인 표면 너머로 즉물적 순간의 감정과 정취를 긴장감 있게 포착한다. 가장 주목받는 사진작가 중 한 명으로 국내외 미술계에서 인지도를 쌓고 있는 정희승은 삼성미술관 리움, 아트선재센터, 고은사진미술관, 광주비엔날레, 대구사진비엔날레를 비롯 뉴욕과 런던, 서울 등지에서 수차례 전시를 개최하였으며, 송은미술대상 우수상(2011), 박건희 문화재단 다음작가상(2012) 등을 수상했다. 2020년 국립현대미술관 올해의작가상 후원 작가로 선정된 바 있다
Heeseung Chung(b.1974) focuses on the constraints and qualities of photography which is widely understood as the medium of realism and produces candid photos of everyday objects. Chung points her camera lenses to subjects such as figures, body, plant, architecture, space and places them in an atmosphere that is so calming yet dynamic, and brisk yet warm within her photographs. Her works are of minimized artist's intervention and are therefore aloof and nonchalant; yet, they capture the fleeting moments and emotions beyond their poetic surfaces filled with neatly organized forms. Chung, celebrated as one of the most acclaimed photographers, has presented her works worldwide in New York, London, Seoul at institutions including Leeum Samsung Museum of Art (Seoul, Korea), Art Sonje Center (Seoul, Korea), GoEun Museum of Photography (Busan, Korea), Gwangju Biennale, and Daegu Photo Biennale. She was awarded the SongEun ArtAward in 2011, and the Daum Parize from the Parkgeonhi Foundation in 2012. She was the nominee/sponsored artist for the ‘Korea Artist Prize 2020’ of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.
