JORGE PARDO


쿠바 출신의 호르헤 파르도(b.1963)는 캘리포니아의 ACCD(Art Center College of Design)와 일리노이대학(University of Illinois)을 졸업하였고, 현재 LA에서 거주하며 작업 중이다. 색채와 빛의 요소를 디자인과 건축의 영역에 유입시키는 작가는 램프와 타일, 식탁, 의자 등아름다움과 실용성을 동시에 갖춘 유기적 형태의 오브제들을 제시하며 삶과 미술이 소통하는 총체적 예술세계를 선보인다. 그는 미술의 역할에 대한 질문을 끊임없이 제기하며 상업적 재료와 도구, 기술들을 적극 끌어들여 회화와 조각, 가구, 건축, 인테리어 등 미술의 전 영역을 교차하는 작업을 제시한다. 파르는 Art Institute of Chicago, Fabric Workshop & Museum(Philadelphia), Museum of Contemporary Art(Cleveland) 등지에서 개인전을 개최하였으며, LA MoCA에서 주관한 조각설치 프로젝트, 독일 Skulptur-Projekte Munster, Dia Art Foundation의 북샵 프로젝트 등 대규모 설치프로젝트에 참가해왔다.
