KIM JIWON


‘맨드라미 작가’로 잘 알려진 김지원(b.1961)은 자신의 일상과 사유, 기억들을 투영시킨 내밀한 회화세계를 제시한다. 특히 맨드라미의 성장과 소멸의 모습을 직접 관찰하며 그 생명순환의 과정을 화폭에 옮겨낸 <맨드라미> 연작은 꽃의 화려한 외관을 그려낸 정물화이자 스스로의 내적 성찰을 투영시킨 명상기록이라 할 수 있다. 이외에도 <군함>, <비행기>, <스프링쿨러> 연작 등 일상적인 공간과 소재에 주목하는 김지원의 작업은 오늘날의 미술이 직면한 ‘회화’라는 화두에 대하여 진지한 작가적 탐구를 이어간다. 그는 인하대학교 미술교육과와 Städelschul(Frankfurt am Main)을 졸업하였으며, 금호미술관, 성곡미술관, 영은미술관 등 한국을 기반으로 꾸준히 전시를 개최해왔다. 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 삼성미술관 리움, 아트선재센터 등에 소장되어 있으며, 작가는 현재 한국예술종합학교 조형예술학과 교수로 재직 중이다.
