LEE KANGSO


이강소(b.1943)는 서울대학교 회화과를 졸업한 이후 1970년대부터 회화와 판화, 퍼포먼스, 사진, 비디오, 설치 등 다양한 매체작업을 선보여왔다. 특히 작가는 1975년 제 9회 파리 비엔날레에서 살아있는 닭을 소재로 선보인 파격적인 퍼포먼스 <닭의 퍼포먼스>를 통하여 해외와 국내 평단의 큰 관심을 이끌어냈다. 1980년대부터 이강소는 오리, 배, 사슴 등 동양화에 자주 등장하는 도상들을 이용하여 단색과 여백의 미가 돋보이는 회화연작들을 선보였는데, 화선지 대신 캔버스를, 묵이 아닌 아크릴 물감을 사용한 그의 화면은 동서양의 감성을 아우르며 전통과 현대의 접점을 제시하였다는 호평을 받았다. 작가는 Musée des Arts Asiatique(Nice), Bergen Museum of Art and Science(New Jersey), Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, 대구미술관 등 전세계 주요도시에서 전시를 개최하였으며, 그의 작품은 국립현대미술관, 삼성미술관 리움, 금호미술관 등지에 소장되어 있다.
