제2회 김복진미술상 수상 작가 정현의 개인전 《낮은 물질들로 쓰여진 시》가 청주시립미술관에서 개최 중입니다. 이번 전시는 침목, 폐목, 폐철근, 콜타르, 자연석 등 본래의 기능을 잃고 버려진 물질들을 매개로, 1980년대 후반부터 이어진 작가의 30여 년간의 조형 실험을 압축적으로 조망합니다. 조각과 드로잉을 포함해 약 80여 점이 전시되며, 정현 특유의 절제된 개입과 물성 중심의 조형 언어가 두드러집니다. 정현은 인본주의적 태도를 바탕으로 한 꾸준한 실천과 조형성에서의 성취를 인정받아, 한국 근대 조각의 선구자 김복진(1901–1940)의 예술 정신을 기리는 김복진미술상의 제2회 수상자로 선정되었습니다.
특히 이번 전시에서는 석유 찌꺼기인 콜타르로 그려낸 드로잉 신작이 돋보이며, 작가가 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 수집하고 가공한 폐철근과 목재 조각을 집적한 설치 작품을 통해 시간의 침전과 감정의 잔재를 시적인 밀도로 구현합니다. 《낮은 물질들로 쓰여진 시》는 쓸모를 다해 버려지고, 결코 귀하게 여겨지지 않는 물질들이 겪어낸 시련과 견딤의 시간, 그 깊고 조용한 흔적들을 의미합니다. 전시는 7월 27일까지.
𝘈 𝘗𝘰𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘴, a solo exhibition by CHUNG, Hyun, winner of the 2nd Kim Bok-jin Art Award, is currently on view at Cheongju Museum of Art. Featuring approximately eighty works—including sculptures and drawings—the exhibition offers a condensed survey of the artist’s sculptural experiments over the past thirty years. CHUNG works with materials that have lost their original function—railroad sleepers, scrap wood, rebar, coal tar, and natural stones—bringing attention to their raw materiality through minimal artistic intervention.
His new coal tar drawings and installations, composed of reclaimed rebar and wood fragments collected over many years, evoke the sediment of time and emotional residue with poetic density. The exhibition continues through July 27, 2025.
