국립현대미술관 서울에서 «이것은 개념미술이 (아니)다»가 열리고 있습니다. 이번 전시는 1970~90년대 한국현대미술의 개념적 전환을 조망하며, 언어와 논리, 행위, 사물과 언어 등 다양한 실천을 통해 한국 개념미술의 흐름을 살펴봅니다.
코디 최(b.1961)는 1983년 미국 이주 이후 경험한 문화적 충돌과 정체성의 문제를 탐구해 온 작가입니다. 이번 전시에서는 1990년대 초반 작업부터 2000년대 작업에 이르기까지, 신체와 언어, 욕망과 정체성의 관계를 탐구한 6점의 작품을 선보입니다. 그중 ‘언어·논리·행위’ 장에 출품된 ‹Modeling for Scamps, Scram›(1994)과 ‹Scamps, Scram #1 (Self-Portrait in Energy Level)›(1993)은 신체를 분절된 상자 속에 위치시키는 반복 행위를 통해 몸을 하나의 기호 체계로 재구성한 작업입니다. 전시는 10월 11일까지.
The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), Seoul is currently presenting 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 (𝘕𝘰𝘵) 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘳𝘵. The exhibition explores the conceptual turn in Korean contemporary art from the 1970s through the 1990s, tracing its development through diverse artistic practices involving language, logic, performance, and objects and language.
Cody Choi (b. 1961) has explored issues of cultural conflict and identity following his immigration to the United States in 1983. The exhibition features six works spanning the early 1990s to the 2000s that examine the relationships between body and language, desire and identity. Among them, 𝘔𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘴, 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘮 (1994) and 𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘴, 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘮 #𝟣 (𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘌𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘓𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭) (1993), presented in the 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘨𝘦, 𝘓𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤, 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 section, redefine the body as a system of symbols through repeated acts of placing fragmented parts of the body within separated boxes.
