조각가 권진규(1922–1973)는 한국 현대조각의 선구자로서, 인물과 동물의 형상 속 존재의 핵심과 순수미를 탐구하며 자신만의 조형 세계를 구축해 온 작가입니다. 테라코타와 건칠, 석조 등 다양한 재료와 기법을 활용해 온 권진규의 작업은 한국적 리얼리즘에 기반한 구상 조소의 세계를 정립했습니다. 현재 서울과 울산에서 절제된 조형감이 돋보이는 권진규 조각을 가까이에서 만날 수 있는 단체전이 이어지고 있습니다.

광복 이후 이쾌대가 성북구 돈암동에 설립한 성북회화연구소의 의미를 조명하는 이번 전시는, 연구소에 몸담았던 예술가들의 교류와 활동을 되짚습니다. 권진규는 전시의 마지막 구성인 ‘예술의 부흥’ 파트에 함께합니다. 다양한 장르 안에서 각자의 개성을 펼친 작가들을 소개하는 흐름 속, ‹춘몽›(1968–1969)은 인체의 단순화된 형태와 응축된 조형감을 드러냅니다. 전시는 5월 24일까지.

This exhibition sheds light on the significance of the Seongbuk Painting Academy founded by Lee Qoede in Donam-dong, Seongbuk, following Korea’s liberation, revisiting the exchanges and artistic activities of the artists who were part of the academy. Kwon Jin Kyu is featured in the exhibition’s final section, “Revival of Art.” Within this presentation of artists who developed distinct practices across various genres, 𝘚𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 (1968–1969) reveals the simplified human form and condensed sculptural sensibility characteristic of Kwon’s work.
