올라퍼 엘리아슨의 신작 <A symphony of disappearing Sounds for the Great Salt Lake>가 미국 유타주 솔트레이크시티 메모리 그로브 공원에서 열린 공공예술 프로젝트‘Wake the Great Salt Lake’를 통해 공개되었습니다.
그레이트솔트레이크 생태계의 위기를 알리기 위한 이 프로젝트는 올라퍼 엘리아슨과 그래미 수상 프로듀서 콜리스(Koreless)의 협업으로, 호수에서 채집한 철새의 신호음과 파리 떼, 풀을 뜯는 들소의 울부짖음 등 150여 종의 동물과 자연의 소리를 융합하여 대형 구체 위의 사운드스케이프 (Soundscape)로 재탄생시켰습니다. 이는 마치 인간의 손길이 닿지 않은 지구 태초의 모습을 연상케 하며 우리가 잃어가고 있는 자연에 대한 경각심을 빛과 색의 감각적인 자극으로 경험하게 합니다.
해가 저문 공원에서 열흘간 선보인 이번 작품은, 오늘을 끝으로 막을 내립니다.
Olafur Eliasson’s latest work, 𝘈 𝘚𝘺𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘵 𝘓𝘢𝘬𝘦, has been unveiled as part of the public art project ‘Wake the Great Salt Lake’, held at Memory Grove Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Aiming to raise awareness of the ecological crisis facing the Great Salt Lake, the project is a collaboration between Olafur Eliasson and Grammy-winning producer Koreless. It reimagines a soundscape on a massive sphere by blending natural sounds—including the calls of migratory birds, swarms of flies, and the bellows of grazing bison—drawn from over 150 species and elements of the lake’s ecosystem. The experience evokes a primordial Earth untouched by human hands, using light and color to create a sensory environment that instills a sense of urgency about the natural world we are losing.
The work comes to a close today, marking its tenth evening in the park at dusk.
