Suh Seung-Won: Group Exhibition

Suh Seung-Won’s work is currently on view in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘬 at Kimdaljin Art Archives and Museum. The exhibition takes as its starting point 𝘍𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘬 ‘𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦’: 𝟧 𝘒𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴, held at Tokyo Gallery in 1975, and explores the historical context of the exhibition and the significance of white in Korean art. The 1975 exhibition was also highlighted as a significant example of Korea–Japan art exchange in 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘦: 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘒𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘑𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝟣𝟫𝟦𝟧 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Gwacheon.

Suh was one of the five artists who participated in the 1975 exhibition. In the 1960s, he was a founding member of Origin and AG, and played an important role in the development of geometric abstraction and Dansaekhwa in Korean contemporary art. The current exhibition presents archival materials related to his practice alongside a work from his 𝘚𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘪𝘵𝘺 series. On view through December 31.
