Toby Ziegler, a British artist born in 1972, has been awarded the 14th Jean-François Prat Prize in 2025. Established in memory of Jean-François Prat, a passionate supporter of contemporary art, this prestigious international award honors emerging talents from around the world each year. Ziegler’s practice draws on a wide range of visual references—including photographs, paintings, and memory-based imagery—which he digitally reconfigures before layering with physical gestures in oil paint. His distinctive visual language explores the shifting boundaries between figuration and abstraction, the virtual and the real. Works such as Blind men exploring the skin of an elephant (2023), Exhausted symbols (2023), and Escapism (2024) feature large-scale canvases combining inkjet prints and oil paint, inviting viewers into an emotional experience as they attempt to interpret the fragmented imagery.
