유영국 화백(1916-2002)의 탄생 110주년을 기념하는 대규모 회고전이 서울시립미술관 서소문본관에서 개최됩니다. 점, 선, 면, 색과 같은 회화의 기본 언어로 높은 산과 깊은 바다를 빚어낸 그의 작업은 고향인 울진의 웅장한 아름다움과 신비로움을 오롯이 담고 있습니다.
이번 전시는 미공개작을 포함, 170여 점의 작품과 아카이브를 만날 수 있는 특별한 기회로, 서울시립미술관이 새롭게 선보이는 ‘한국 근대 거장’ 시리즈의 첫 프로젝트로 준비되었습니다. 한국의 제 1세대 모더니스트이자 추상 미술의 영역을 개척한 선구자인 유영국 화백이 그 포문을 열게되어 더욱 뜻깊습니다. 전시는 10월 25일까지.
A large-scale retrospective commemorating the 110th anniversary of the birth of Yoo Youngkuk (1916–2002) will be held at Seosomun Main Branch.Using the fundamental language of painting—points, lines, planes, and color—his work shapes high mountains and deep seas, fully embodying the majestic beauty and mystique of his hometown, Uljin.
This exhibition presents a special opportunity to encounter over 170 works and archival materials, including previously unseen pieces, and has been organized as the inaugural project of Seoul Museum of Art’s newly launched “Korean Modern Masters” series. It is especially meaningful that Yoo Youngkuk, a first-generation modernist in Korea and a pioneer of abstract art, inaugurates the series. On view through October 25.
