'동등성’이라는 화두를 예술을 통해 이끌어내며, 도처에 산재한 수직의 위계 구조를 유연하게 허무는 작업을 지속해온 홍영인 작가의 작품을 국립현대미술관 덕수궁관의 «한국 근현대 자수: 태양을 잡으려는 새들»에서 만나볼 수 있습니다.
본 전시는 19세기 이후, 식민, 전쟁, 산업화, 세계화 등 격변의 시기 속에서 미술사에서 주변화되었던 '자수'를 주목하여, 근현대미술사 속 '자수 실천'의 시대별 전개를 살펴봅니다.
본 전시에서 홍영인은 '한국 민중 운동' 보도사진에서 추출한 실루엣을 드로잉과 자수를 거쳐 사진-악보 작업으로 재구성한 <기도> 연작을 선보이며, 하나의 시각으로 정의된 역사가 다양한 개별의 이야기로 다시 쓰일 수 있음을 시사합니다. 전시는 8월 4일까지.

This exhibition examines the development of 'embroidery practice' in the history of modern and contemporary art by paying attention to 'embroidery' that has been marginalized in art history since the 19th century in times of upheaval such as colonization, war, industrialization, and globalization.
In this exhibition, Young In Hong presents a series of Prayers, in which silhouettes extracted from press photos of 'Korean historical Movement' into photo-score works through drawing and embroidery, this points to the possibility of re-writing to a diverse range of individual stories instead of a single, unified history. The exhibition runs until Aug. 4.
