PKM 갤러리는 2025년 화랑미술제에서 이원우(b.1981)의 솔로 부스를 선보인다. 이원우는 조각, 설치, 드로잉, 퍼포먼스를 아우르는 다양한 매체를 통해 사물과 언어, 감정 사이의 관계를 직관적이면서도 유머러스하게 탐구해왔다. 이번 부스에는 대표작을 포함한 13점의 작품을 통해 작가의 작업 흐름과 그 변화 과정을 조망한다.
대표 연작인 <Fat coke> 시리즈는 소비문화를 상징하는 콜라 캔의 형태를 변형해 제작한 금속 조각으로, ‘diet’ 라는 단어가 연상시키는 가벼운 이미지와 조각의 묵직한 물성이 대비를 이루며 독특한 긴장감을 형성한다. 특히, ‘Diet’가 쓰인 <Fat coke (Diet)>는 팽창과 감량, 무해함과 유해함이라는 상반된 개념을 코미디적으로 풀어낸다.
함께 선보이는 <Air words> 시리즈는 반사되는 거울 표면에 새겨진 짧은 문장을 통해 관람자가 자신의 모습과 언어를 동시에 마주하도록 유도한다. 조각의 일부가 된 언어는 감각을 자극하고 감정을 환기시키며, 익숙한 거울이라는 사물을 개인적 경험의 공간으로 전환시킨다.
이번 화랑미술제를 통해 이원우는 익숙한 사물과 언어를 전복적으로 재구성한 조형 세계를 선보인다. 그의 작업은 일상의 평범한 대상을 출발점으로 삼아 새로운 감각적 경험을 창출하며, 우리에게 익숙한 것들을 새롭게 바라보게 만드는 힘을 불러일으킬 것으로 기대된다.
PKM Gallery is pleased to present a solo booth of Wonwoo Lee (b.1981) at the Galleries Art Fair 2025. Working across sculpture, installation, drawing, and performance, Lee has explored the interplay between objects, language, and emotions through a practice imbued with wit and intuition. This presentation brings together thirteen works, including representative pieces, offering insight into the artist’s evolving trajectory.
Lee’s signature Fat coke series transforms the familiar form of a soda can into bulbous metal sculptures. Here, the physical weight of the objects sharply contrasts with the lightness implied by word diet, generating a humorous yet poignant tension between image and material. Fat coke (Diet), in particular, underscores the opposing concepts such as expansion and reduction, and harmlessness and harmfulness coexisting within a single object.
The Air words series features short phrases silkscreened onto mirrored surfaces, prompting viewers to confront both their own reflections and the text. By integrating language into the sculptural form, these works stimulate the senses and evoke emotion, transforming the ordinary mirror into a space of intimate engagement and personal resonance.
Through this presentation, Lee introduces a sculptural realm where the familiar is twisted and reassembled with clarity and incisive humor. His practice begins with the mundane yet subtly destabilizes our perception, inviting viewers to reencounter the everyday through a lens of curiosity and renewed awareness.
